The Bryant library curriculum begins in kindergarten with students engaged in all genres of literature. One day may find students doing everything from enjoying storytelling to searching for a title on the online catalog. Skills and expectations build to develop research practices that include note taking and citation of resources from texts or online sources. The Bryant library has an extensive collections that contains picture books, emerging readers, chapter books, and nonfiction to support the K-5 curriculum and student interests. The library contains over 12,000 books. In addition to book materials, the library has 14 student computers for access to Seattle Public Schools subscribtion-based online resouces, and to support information literacy library curriculum. Library Policies - Students may borrow their grade plus two books. For example, a 3rd grader may have up to 5 books checked out at any one time.
- Kindergarten and 1st grade students may keep their books for one week, with the option to renew for an additional week.
- 2nd through 5th graders may keep their books for two weeks, with the option to renew for an additional two weeks. Longer periods are allowed depending on the student's needs.
- There are NO OVERDUE FINES for late books. however, students may not borrow any new library materials until their overdue items are returned or they have made arrangements with the librarian.
- Accidents do happen, but we ask that LOST or DAMAGED books be replaced through paying a replacemnent cost or replacing the the item. Once the student or parent has notified the librarian of a lost or damaged book, he/she may check out one book, until replacement is made.
- Each class visits the library once a week for 30 minutes. However, students are encouraged to return their books as soon as they have read them...even if it's not their library day.
- Need a book and it's not your library day? Students are welcomed to check out books after school and on days when the library is open for recess.
