Read Across America
On March 2, in honor of Dr. Seuss, the National Education Association encourages a day of reading. The idea behind Read Across American is to motivate children to read, which has been shown to be an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Here at the Bryant library we encourage reading everyday. During this week we celebrate reading Dr. Seuss style. Kindergarten, First, and Second - We read two Washington Children's Choice Picture book nominees that celebrate rhyming. In "Bedtime at the Swamp" by Kristen Crow, students had a great time interjecting the chorus "splish splash, rumba-rumba, bim bam boom!" We also celebrated Dr. Seuss with great non-sensical rhyming in "Peter Spit a Seed at Sue" by Jackie French Koller. |
