Please join a meeting of the Community Service Committee on Friday, Nov. 20th after school in Julie Black’s ELL room on the third floor. The purpose of the meeting is to review a calendar of proposed activities for the year (based on parent input at our first meeting). All are welcome! Please spread the word about the Committee, and please join us at our meetings and community activities.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our first two events, a clean-up of Ravenna Park and planting trees along the Burke-Gilman trail.

communityThank you for your interest in Bryant’s new Community Service Committee! At our first event on Saturday, Oct. 17th, we had about 25 people show up, including friends from Wedgwood and St. Ben’s, help clean up trash at Ravenna Park. This was a great turnout, considering the downpours, so thank you to everyone who participated! (The woman who organized the event called that evening to say how thrilled she was by the amount of clean-up the group did.) On Friday, Oct. 16th we held our first committee meeting after school, and had 14 adults and many kids participate and assist with planning.

Participants identified multiple options for community service, and expressed interest in putting together a community service calendar on our website, if permissible, that can include each month’s service learning opportunities. Again, thanks for your enthusiasm and your interest in the Community Service Committee. Stay tuned for updates about our next project!

Community Service Opportunities PDF Print E-mail

Hi Bryant Families!

We would love your support for the new Community Service Committee we started to encourage community service in our community. We are having a meeting after school on Oct. 16th and would love to have anyone join us.

Our idea for the new committee is to enhance our portrait of A Bryant Citizen that strives to have students graduate from Bryant Elementary School with a greater appreciation for what it means to be a responsible global citizen.

We want to put together monthly community service opportunities that interested families can join. Some projects will be outside of the school during non-school hours. Others will involve bringing goods to school that we collect and deliver. There is no school transportation provided for the out of school events, but our hope is that families will be interested in working together to extend Bryant’s sense of community beyond our own walls.

As our first activity, we plan to have a clean-up at Ravenna Park on Saturday morning, Oct. 17th at 10 a.m. Please join us! We’ll be meeting at the north end of the 20th Ave. bridge. (The street to the west is 62nd NE and to the east is 61st Street NE). If you have gloves, please bring them along. This activity works well for all ages.

Some of the other service ideas we are kicking around include tending to animals waiting for adoption, raking leaves for neighbors, making cards for a senior center or patients at Children’s Hospital, etc.

We would also love to partner with any projects that families are already involved in – projects that would be interested in having Bryant families join an activity for a few hours. Are you involved in any local projects we should know about? If so, please contact us: Holly Barker, adc3fd39cc562fdae0b9e3dadde66e0a , and Terrie McCoy, 0663ae5146928835e0b3b013d92511e7

We hope to see you at our planning meeting on Oct. 16th and for our clean-up event on Oct. 17th!
