Breaking news: Bryant is among the schools announced this week to receive the 2009 Washington Achievement Award for Overall Excellence! From a press release put out by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and Washington State Board of Education (SBE): OLYMPIA — March 17, 2010 — Schools that profoundly affect student learning are being awarded for their efforts. A total of 174 schools are receiving Washington Achievement Awards for 2009. The announcement was made at a meeting of the Washington State Board of Education today. The awards are being given by the State Board and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. “We’re proud of these schools,” said state superintendent Randy Dorn. “They’re showing that great gains can be made for all students.” The schools will be recognized at celebrations around the state on May 5. OSPI and SBE identify award recipients using a new performance Accountability Index designed to support continuous improvement efforts. The Accountability Index is a measurement that uses 2009 WASL data. The Overall Excellence award is awarded to schools whose 2-year School Accountability Index average puts them in the top five percent (in four levels: elementary, middle/junior, high and comprehensive). Bryant was one of 5 Seattle elementary schools receiving this award, along with Beacon Hill International, Hay, Laurelhurst, and McGilvra. |

Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) |

Every school in our district is required to develop a CSIP. These plans are all listed on the Source and parents have access to them. Our CSIP directs our efforts in increasing the achievement of all students. The CSIPs include all elements required by the state and federal laws and supports the Seattle Public Schools’ Strategic Plan. Each CSIP includes but is not limited to: - An analysis of school data
- Specific goals for major subject areas
- Connections to the Nine Characteristics of Highly Successful Schools
- Strategies to help students succeed
- Plans for interventions, resources and support
- Activities for family/community involvement
Bryant’s CSIP Team attended the CSIP review on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the John Stanford Center with other schools. This process allows for schools to collaborate and share their plans, while providing feedback and solutions in the areas of academic focus. Bryant was accompanied by Kimball Elementary and Steven Elementary. The focus of Bryant’s CSIP presentation was math and becoming certified as an ALO (Advanced Learning Opportunity) School. |

This year’s Bryant Blast was much more relaxed than last year. We didn’t have the wind, rain or power outage this season. What an amazing event. The food was great, the games were fun and the prizes were awesome. However, more importantly was the unity in everyone that participated. I have never seen so many smiles on so many faces in one place. I want to formally thank our Blast Co-Chairs Anne Thomas and Lisa Ye and the Volunteer Coordinator Dolly Smith. I would like to also extend a thank you to all the parent, staff and student volunteers. There are too many to mention here. |

Dear Bryant Families,
Welcome back to school! I hope this letter finds you rested and excited for the journey ahead. I am amazed at the level of dedication and participation by our staff, our parents and our community.
This will be my second year at Bryant, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your children. We will have a few new staff this year who will add new perspectives and energy to the work we are already doing. I am happy to announce the new staff members as listed below.
- Alex Jones has been recalled and will be teaching kindergarten
- Nicole Newman will be our new Special Education resource room teacher
- Vickie Lee is our new homework center coordinator
We know that communities are as strong as the relationships they are built on. One way relationships can be strengthened is through common experiences provided by interaction. These interactive experiences can be created by volunteerism. Bryant has a very strong volunteer core. We invite you to think about sharing your passions and skills with the Bryant Community. Our volunteers are a huge contribution to the success of our students. If you are interested in volunteering at the school, please contact either Ann Marie Patterson at or our PTSA Volunteer Coordinators: Katie Becker ( ) and Karen Bullard ( ). |

What a Great School Year! |

This year has flown by for me. I can’t believe this is the last week of school. I have so many memories from this year. My first impression of Bryant School when I came to the BBQ last May was completely accurate. This building has an amazing staff, awesome parents and priceless students. It was everything I hoped for. It is Saturday, and I just finished the “Art Day with Ms. Fox.” What a great time! I was able to spend several hours with a handful of children and got to know them better. Spending time with the children always reminds us of why we work so hard. |
