Spotlight: Ms. Schimmel

This week the Spotlight shines on Ms. Schimmel, 2nd grade Teacher

Where were you born? I was born in Anchorage Alaska in the old Alaska Native Medical Center.

In which cities have you lived the majority of your life? Kenai, Alaska and Seattle, Washington.

How long have you been working at Bryant? Seven years.

What other jobs have you held? I worked at the Kenai Visitor's Center as a guide, then nanny, then Bryant.

What is your favorite part of your job? Working with the children is the best part of this job! Everyday is so much fun. Children make me laugh!!

What do you like the most about Bryant? I love the community.

What are your hobbies? I love to read, take walks with my dog and family, and go outside!

Do you have a favorite trip that you have taken or would like to take? I would love to go to Mexico and the Grand Canyon.

Spotlight: Ms. Hampton

This week the Spotlight shines on Kelly Hampton, a Bryant Kindergarten teacher.

Where were you born? Tucson, Arizona.

In which city have you lived the majority of your life? Rainy Seattle!

How long have you been working at Bryant? I have been working at Bryant for two years.

What other jobs have you held? My first job was washing the dishes at home. I think I earned a quarter a week. At 16 I upgraded to a bagger at Albertsons, then to a cashier. I have worked in two different coffee shops and one clothing store. I was a sign-language interpreter for five years before becoming a teacher.

What is your favorite part of your job? Five-year olds are the best comedians and they don't even know it! They should take their show on the road.

What do you like the most about Bryant? My team! You can't find a better kindergarten team around to work with. Oh, and all the cookies my kids bake me.

What are your hobbies? Bowling, baking, board games and writing poems.

Do you have a favorite trip that you have taken or would like to take? I am saving to some day go to Scotland. I have dreamt of going since I was about 10.

Pretend you could spend the rest of your life doing a fantasy job or volunteer project. What would it be? I always wanted to own a kitchen store or a cafe or a chocolate shop!

Spotlight: Ms.Bernard

This week the Spotlight shines on Connie Bernard, teaching 3rd grade on the 3rd floor.

Where were you born? Eureka, CA

In which city have you lived the majority of your life? Seattle, WA

How long have you been working at Bryant? Throughout the last three years.

What other jobs have you held? I was a delivery person/driver for pharmacy, deck bbq waitress/cook, secretary/bookkeeper, group home for youth, waterski instructor, camp counselor... and super wonderful, a mom!

What is your favorite part of your job? Seeing students grow in their learning, those wonderful "Ah Ha" moments for students, having fun interactions with the students...

What do you like the most about Bryant? The great professionalism of the staff who are so dedicated to providing the best for the students, the amazing students who energize me everyday, and the wonderful parents who are involved in their child's life.

What are your hobbies? Soccer, guitar, reading, playing games, being with dear family and friends.

Do you have a favorite trip that you have taken or would like to take? I have been blessed to have taken some great trips. My favorite trip a few years ago was to Crater Lake, what an amazing, beautiful and diverse place. We are planning to return again this summer.

Pretend you could spend the rest of your life doing a fantasy job or volunteer project - what would it be? My favorite thing to do would be to read as many wonderful books as I could, I love to read!

Spotlight: Principal Gayle Everly

This week the Spotlight shines brightly on Gayle Everly, one of our wonderful Bryant Principals.

Where were you born? Butte, Montana - they claim Butte is a mile high (almost in elevation!) and a mile deep due to the open pit copper mine which is over a mile deep.  Butte is just miles from the Continental Divide and as you can see I flowed west to the Pacific Ocean.

In which city have you lived the majority of your life? Although I have moved around a bit, I now have spent the most years in the Edmonds and Seattle areas.

How long have you been working at Bryant? Long enough to love it!

What other jobs have you held? School counselor and teacher, private practice therapist, social worker, waitress, engineer's assistant (worked for my dad).
