Seussical News — Week 5

Greetings Seussical parents!

Here’s your Seussical week 5 newsletter. Please read all of it. This is how we will communicate important news for the coming week.

More Volunteer Opportunities: Please take a look at the Sign Up Genius for more available volunteer slots. We still have slots available for flat painting (set pieces) Thursday! Please sign up, because those flats are not going to paint themselves. We also have an additional volunteer opportunity for those of you looking to impress us with your heavy lifting skills. Friday, 2/28 we will be installing the extensions to the stage. We need 5 volunteers– please sign up!

Costumes: It turns out that the cast will be in their base blacks for one musical number, so it’s very important that everyone’s base blacks are long pants or leggings and a long or short sleeve black shirt– NO LOGOS, no tank tops.  Everyone should have received an email about costumes. Please email us with questions. If you need to find that info easily, you can find it here on the Bryant Play web page.

Rehearsal Reminders:  Regular rehearsals this week, Monday & Thursday 6:15-8:00. Please remind your kids to bring their scripts, a pencil, and a water bottle to all rehearsals.

Ads for the Program: Each student gets a quarter page ad in the play program included with the play fee. You also have the option of purchasing more ad space. Please see the attachment for all the details. Deadline is February 29.

Rehearsal Chaperones: Thank you to all the parents who have chaperoned so far. Everyone has been doing an excellent job helping out during rehearsals and being responsive to requests from Seattle Performers’ staff. Y’all are the best!

  • Absent students— Please come to rehearsal with your cell phone. After Seattle Performers staff call role they will give you the names of those who are absent. Please text these names toLiza on Mondays 206.240.4818 and Traci on Thursdays 206.816.2362. That’s all! We will text you back only if there is follow up.

Bryant Play Webpage: The webpage is up and running for Seussical! This is a handy one stop shop for all your Seussical needs. These newsletters will be posted there, so no need to sift through your email– just bookmark this webpage! You can also find such hits as: Suessical rehearsal calendar, play fee payment link, Sign Up Genius link, link to vocals and more!

Seussical Costumes

Hi Cats and Hats Cast Parents! I am writing to share important costume information for this year’s show. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY.

It is time to start looking in closets, talking to friends and family and finding your local Goodwill.  Swap.com is where I found a lot of Julius’ costume last year but you need to allow time for shipping. After reading this, Let us know if you have any questions about your childs’ costume needs or need help finding pieces – please don’t wait until the last minute.  And remember– there is a $25 limit per child. No need to go all out and this shouldn’t be stressful!

Costume Parade is Monday, February 24.  We need your child to bring their costumes to rehearsal that evening. That is your deadline.

Each child has a main role and they are playing a WHO except for HORTON and the CATS.  MR and MRS MAYOR and JOJO are always Whos so they don’t need an additional Who costume. This year’s company t-shirt will be a Who shirt and we are providing that. We are also providing the Fish and Weather costumes so if your child asks, we have that covered.

If your child’s costume has a button down shirt, tricky zipper, anything that is hard to get on and off, you may want to consider rigging this piece of clothing, replacing buttons with velcro, simplifying ties, buckles, etc.  If you would like help figuring this out, let us know.

Look here to find your child’s character and you will see a picture and descriptions (don’t forget to look at the Who page). These give you an idea of what kind of costume pieces we are looking for for each character. You don’t need to get exactly what is pictured.  We provide pictures to give you an idea but do pay attention to color requests!

Costume Plan:  ALL CAST AND CREW will come to dress rehearsals and show nights in what we are calling a base layer.  Black shorts, leggings or pants and a black t-shirt or tank top. When they arrive, they will get their costume box which will be stored at Bryant and add their costume pieces OVER their base layer (there will be no dressing room).  If they have more than one costume and a quick change, the may need to wear a couple of layers at once. When the show is done, they will take off their costumes, put them back in their box and wear their base layer home. Ideally they would wear black shoes but any dark shoes they can dance in will work.

Any questions?  Send them our way! Thank you so much for taking the time to costume your child.  We really appreciate it and hope you and your performer have a good time doing it.

Regards,

Liza and Jessilee (Production Manager and Crew Supervisor)

Seussical News– Week 3

Greetings Seussical parents!

Here’s your Seussical week 3 newsletter. Please read all of it. This is how we will communicate important news for the coming week.

Rehearsal Reminders:  Regular rehearsals this week, Monday & Thursday 6:15-8:00. Please remind your kids to bring their scripts, a pencil, and a water bottle to all rehearsals. Remind them to put their name in dark ink on their script’s front cover so that they can make sure to grab the correct script at the end of rehearsal. There is no formal snack break. Please make sure your students are fed before rehearsal.

Ads for the Program: Each student gets a quarter page ad in the play program included with the play fee. You also have the option of purchasing more ad space. Please see the attachment for all the details. Deadline is February 29.

More Volunteer Opportunities: Please take a look at the Sign Up Genius for more available volunteer slots. We are in need of a 4th grade parent to fill one slot this Thursday, the 30th. A 5th grade parent forgot it was the Eckstein open house. We also have new slots available for flat painting (set pieces) and costume parade monitors in February. We will have a lot more information for you in the coming week about costumes, but if you would like to help keep the process of checking costumes organized and running smoothly, this volunteer opportunity is for you!

Rehearsal Chaperones:

  • Timing is everything—  Please be in the lunch room a little before 6:00pm. Check in with Seattle’s Performers staff. Plan to stay until all students have been picked up. Hopefully this will be shortly after 8:00pm (PLEASE BE ON TIME TO PICK UP YOUR KIDS). Seattle’s Performers staff are not responsible for the kids after 8:00pm and will not be staying on site after that.
  • Chaperones, it is your responsibility to stay with any stragglers until they find their grown up. We recommend one chaperone waiting in the lunchroom and the other 2 leaving out of separate doors (playground door and front doors) with an eye for lost children. If you see kids who aren’t with a grown up or don’t know where they are supposed to be, send them back into the lunchroom and the third chaperone waiting there can help problem solve.
  • Absent students— Please come to rehearsal with your cell phone (if you don’t have one, email us and we can problem solve). After Seattle Performers staff call role they will give you the names of those who are absent. Please text these names to Liza on Mondays 206.240.4818 and Traci on Thursdays 206.816.2362. That’s all! We will text you back only if there is follow up.

Rehearsal Attendance Please try to avoid your student missing rehearsals. However, we know kids get sick and we know that there are some upcoming conflicts for the 5th graders. Seattle Performers staff will take roll at the start of rehearsal and names of those absent will be given to parent chaperones. We will call you if we didn’t hear from you about your student being out. Please remember to email bryantschoolplay@gmail.com as soon as you know that your student will miss a rehearsal.

If your 5th Grader is going to be playing at the Eckstein band concert THIS THURSDAY, please let us know. If it works for your musician to be at rehearsal before or after (depending on how long the concert goes) please consider allowing them to attend part of rehearsal.

We will assume all 5th graders will be attending the Eckstein open house on January 30th, so there is no need to email us about that absence.

Rehearsal Check Out: No parent let indicated that their child should be met in the lunchroom and formally checked-out of rehearsal. Because there is no formal check-out process, please make sure your kiddos know where to meet you/ who is picking them up/ what they are supposed to do after rehearsal.

Seussical Rehearsal Sign Up!

Greetings Seussical parents!
Please click on the Seussical Sign Up Genius to volunteer for rehearsal chaperoning. We need 3 parents each rehearsal, one to be with each cast as they rehearse and one with the crew. We need you from 5:55 until 8:10 (or until all students have been picked up and are out of the building), unless otherwise noted in the sign up genius.
We very literally cannot do this without you, as the SPS required adult/student ratio is not adequate with only Seattle’s Performers’ staff. Sign up early and often! As a reminder, your student’s ability to participate in this extracurricular activity depends on each family committing to at least 5 volunteer hours– which works out to about 2 rehearsals. Can’t make the rehearsal times work with your schedule? Never fear! There will be more opportunities to volunteer as we go along, and we will add those to the Sign Up Genius and notify you via email.
